Keeping Your Motorcycle Safe

If your motorbike is your pride and joy, the last thing you'll ever want to happen is to wake up one day and discover that your precious bike has been stolen. It's only natural that your bike, as valuable as it is to you, will also be recognized as being valuable to others and, unfortunately, there are plenty of people out there who wouldn't think twice about hopping aboard and stealing it if given the opportunity.

However, there are many methods to prevent your bike from being stolen, so if you really want to ensure your cherished vehicle remains safe at all times, it could be worth putting some of them into implementation.

Firstly, the absolute best solution tends to be simply to remove the bike from the sight of potential thieves. By storing your motorbike in the garage or around the back of the house, you immediately remove a massive threat to your bike's safety as thieves will only discover it if they go looking for it. By taking away the temptation to steal it, you could heavily reduce the chances of this happening - so, if you have a garage or it's possible to store your bike around the back or in a lock-up, this is the ideal solution.

This isn't possible for everyone, though - but there are still plenty of things you can do to help protect your trusty motorcycle. For example, if your bike is not tagged with a secure mark - a unique identifying mark that proves who the motorcycle belongs to - you can get a kit to do this yourself and thus be able to prove ownership should the worst happen.

One such mark is the Alpha Dot, which helps police in tracking stolen vehicles down and tracing them back to the owners, as well as helping them to convict thieves who are dealing in stolen parts.

For a slightly lower-tech solution, just by locking, chaining and immobilizing your vehicle, you could save it from being stolen. Chaining up your bike is considered an essential and you can go further into security by making several more recommended investments - installing an alarm and adding an immobilizer. These are both excellent deterrents that could help protect your bike.

Sadly, no method is entirely foolproof, which is why it's also crucial to have good motorbike insurance, but by trying out at least some of the above you could do a lot towards preventing a disaster.
