Teen Driving Tips

So you've passed your driving test, used the change you have been saving for practically your whole life to buy a car, and you are ready to hit the road. Liberation! No more having to be picked up by mum after college or early after an evening out as your dad has other things to do.

Teenagers have a bad reputation in the driving stakes, and studies prove that you tend to be more daring when driving, which, with inexperience, can lead to accidents.

My first inexperienced moment will haunt me for the rest of my life, mainly because my best friend took a picture which now has pride of place on her wall. I had gone out with a bunch of friends and decided that rather than drinking, I would drive. We had a great evening, and my friends all decided to go clubbing, which I declined. I did however; offer to give them a lift to the club as it was cold. I came out of the car park, and drove part of the way, before I saw police behind me, signaling me to pull over. I was terrified, as although I hadn't had a drop to drink, all my friends clearly had. I got out of the car, and it turned out that I have exited the car park, and as the town had been really well lit, I had forgotten to put my lights on. In the police officers eyes, I was out driving on a student night, and could have been drinking. They breathalysed me, (cue the photograph) and I nervously waited for them to tell me that I was fine and should be more careful.

Sounds funny, but everyone has an incident that they recall, of the first few years of driving.

Teenagers are most likely to commit high risk behaviors, which at the time seem OK, but coupled with an accident, could leave you fighting for your life. Make sure that you wear your seat belt, observe the speed limit and don't drive after drinking. If you have an accident early in your driving career then it will make it much harder in the future to get Cheap Car Insurance. Also, when you are newly qualified, you have 6 points on your license, as opposed to 12 so it is much easier to lose it if you commit offences.
