The word van is the shortened version of the word caravan; this word is applied to boxy cargo vehicles. In UK, a minivan is a people carrier or a multi purpose vehicle. A larger passenger van is a minibus. In US, a van is a box shaped vehicle, used to carry goods. A dry van carry almost all goods, a refrigerated van is used for cold goods. A car used to carry baggage is also called a van. In Japan the Mazda Bongo and the Subaru vans are the most popular. In Australia, the van is used as minivan, minibus, panel van; full size vans are used for commercial purposes or as a passenger vehicle with 7 or 8 seats. 

A camper van is a vehicle that provides transport and sleeping accommodation. Camper vans describe the vans that have been fitted out for both uses; camper vans are recreational vehicles and are equipped with a pop-up roof or a fixed high top roof. The pop-up roof can be raised during camping. Camper vans have a small kitchen with a refrigerator and two burner gas hob and grill. Camper van must also have a dual voltage lighting which work as dedicated battery (leisure battery) or off the AC power, supplied via a hook-up cable.
